These silkscreen patterns were made by students in Advanced Drawing and Painting after completing a watercolor investigation into the elements of pattern. Students were asked to make a single “unit” for a repeat. As a class we decided on the format for the unit, right triangles won over suggestions of diamonds and squares. These right triangle repeats were created individually or collaboratively. Every student printed a few triangles to add to a collaborative quilt the class created together. A couple of students were overseeing the sewing of the quilt, and I finished the backing and sides. I am grateful to report that I was gifted the quilt by the class at the end of the year. It is as warm and comfy as it is beautiful!
